Designer Transforms Jagged Wood Fragments with Resin into Splendid Accessories

By John Oliver

Melbourne-based designer and jeweler Britta Boeckmann has her own way of seeing the perfect in the imperfect, a skill she uses to create a hugely different array of wearable objects from fused wood and resin. Each jewelry, ring or pair of earrings is made one at a time by hand without the help of a template, a process that lets the pieces evolve naturally as she works.

Boeckmann graduated in 2013 with an industrial design degree and then moved from Germany to Melbourne where she joined the Wangaratta Woodworkers studio. Working three times a week, she quickly improved her jewelry fabrication techniques and soon found a market for her wares. Boeckmann now has her studio and sells her pieces online under the brand “BoldB” on Etsy.
